The Wirsching family

Andrea Wirsching has been voted one of the top 50 leading women in the wine and beverage industry (nominated by the Women in Wine & Spirits Award)! The winners will be announced on December 19th.

Background: The organizing committee says about the selection of the 50 most influential women: “Their personal experiences, industry practices and achievements reflect the innovative and diverse evolution of today’s global wine market, as well as the increasing commitment to sustainability. Each of them deserves equal recognition and applause.”

In addition to the kosher Silvaner, we have also produced a kosher Riesling for the first time: 2023 Iphöfer Riesling trocken VDP.ORTSWEIN

It shows the typical fine minerality of the Keuper soil and has a wonderful length. The wine is “mevushal” because it was briefly heated. This means that the wine complies with the highest Jewish dietary regulations. State Rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky from Hamburg (see photo above / photographer: Stefan W. Römmelt) and Nuremberg Rabbi Eliezer Chitrik are responsible for the kosher implementation.

The project was initiated by several trips to Israel by Andrea Wirsching. “I fell in love with the country and its people.” The exchange between Germany and Israel is close to her heart. In 2016, the Wirsching estate joined the “TWIN-WINERY” initiative and has been exchanging experiences with the partner winery “Kishor” from Israel ever since.

“Many people might still associate Germany with sweet Riesling and sweet Riesling only, but that’s officially an antiquated way of thinking. Yes, high-quality bottlings of off-dry and sweet wines are still very much around. But over the last decade, Germany’s newer, dryer offerings—especially amongst the country’s high-end Rieslings—have sparked a dry wine revolution.”

The German gourmet magazine “Selection” has awarded us “Silvaner Estate of the Year 2023” (3/2023)! We are very pleased about this award, because the Silvaner is particularly close to our hearts.

Nearly 100 of the 202 winegrowers of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter / Association of Prädikatswein Estates) will bring unique and outstanding wines to Rotterdam on 15 May 2023! We will also take part.

In an exclusive tasting of different collections you can discover the fine, complex and characteristic wines that resemble various terroirs as much as the signature of the quality-oriented VDP winegrowers. We are looking forward to your visit!

Do not miss the opportunity to get in touch personally with us and our VDP colleagues, to taste the collections at all levels of the VPD classification as well as impressive sparkling wines and to get a first impression of the development of the new vintage 2022.

Paula and Valerie of trinkmag.com visited Andrea Wirsching and were delighted with our Silvaner wines: “Even a short conversation with Wirsching is a masterclass in Silvaner appreciation. Over the last decade, renewed dedication among growers throughout her home region of Franken has effected a serious revival for the variety.”
