OCTOBER 20-22 : NEW YORK WINE EXPERIENCE
Andrea Wirsching is invited to present the 2019 Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Silvaner GG at the Wine Experience in New York. This puts our wine next to the 230 most famous wines in the world, it’s just not quite as as expensive.
Wine Spectator’s New York Wine Experience 2022 (Oct. 20-22) is a celebration of great wine. Over the course of three days, attendees taste an exciting variety of wines with the world’s best vintners, including top scoring bottling and rare older vintages.
The Wine Spectator team shares don’t-miss wines, such as our GG: “Speaking of rare birds, the white variety Sylvaner is one that even those of us who taste wine for a living don’t frequently encounter. Most come from Germany, a country that doesn’t get the love and attention it deserves from American wine drinkers, IMHO. This year, Hans Wirsching, a fantastic producer from the Franken region, will be pouring the estate’s 90-point 2019 Silvaner Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg GG (the “GG” means a wine is dry and from a grand cru vineyard), which has a fascinating combination of concentration and austere minerality.” (Kristen Bieler)
GREAT SUCCESS AT DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS
These are our latest results at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2022:
97 p. / Platinium Medal: 2018 Iphöfer Kalb Gewürztraminer Trockenbeerenauslese:
“Aromatic, and true to the varietal character, with rose water, Turkish delight, fresh grapes, and lychee with hints of Oriental spices. The palate shows opulent sweetness, yet is balanced by a noble acidity. A peacock’s tail in the glass brings vibrancy, depth, colour, and constant evolution to the reverberating finish.”
96 p. / Gold Medal: 2020 Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Rieslaner Trockenbeerenauslese
96 p. / Gold Medal: 2018 Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling Beerenauslese
The German gourmet magazine “selection” has awarded us again after 2021: Andrea Wirsching is “Winemaker of the Year 2022” and the estate is “Silvaner Estate of the Year 2022”. We are delighted! “‘Winemaker of the Year’ is a special award! I now jokingly address all my employees in production as “Winemaker of the Year”, because we owe this success exclusively to the good evaluation of the wines”, says Andrea Wirsching.

Great GG-Ratings by James Suckling
The famous US wine critic (Wine Spectator)James Suckling tasted our 2019 Grand Crus:
US TOP 100 WINES OF GERMANY: 95/100 points: 2019 Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Riesling GG
“A stunning dry Riesling from a region rarely associated with this grape. Intensely herbal nose with so much bergamot and mirabelle fruit that drags you onto the concentrated and tense palate where there’s so much energy. Very long finish with so much mineral and herbal freshness.”
94/100 points: 2019 Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Silvaner GG
“A powerful and expressive Franken silvaner with fragrant pineapple and sweet tropical-flower aromas, plus tons of mineral freshness on the medium-to full-bodied palate. Long, ripe finish that’s beautifully balanced and already has a Burgundian feel to it. Very good aging potential.”
93/100 points: 2019 Iphöfer Kammer Riesling GG
“The ripe-pineapple aroma pulls you into this generous and juicy dry riesling that’s got ample substance and lovely freshness. Long and powerful finish with some earthy complexitiy.”
92/100 points: 2019 Iphöfer Kammer Silvaner GG
“I really like the intense lemon-curd and caramelized-pear character of this dry silvaner.”
Andrea Wirsching: Winemaker of the Year 2021
We are pleased! Andrea Wirsching has been named “Winemaker of the Year” by the German gourmet magazine “selection” (August 2021 issue). “I love making great wines with our wonderful team and then telling these stories to people,” says Andrea Wirsching. We were also pleased to receive the title of “Silvaner Wine Estate of the Year.”
We are pleased about one more international award for our sweet wines: At the renowned Decanter World Wine Awards 2021, our Trockenbeerenauslese wines of Riesling and Rieslaner (vintage 2019 and 2018, respectively) each received the platinum medal. This means even two Wirsching wines rank among the top ten German wines in this tasting. After receiving the award “Sweet Wine Maker of the Year 2020” (IWC) and the 1st place at the International Scheurebe Award, our sweet wines show once more that they belong to the best sweet wines in the world.
Master-Sommelier Chuck Furuya from Hawaii recently tasted a selection of our wines and he was “thrilled”: “Hans Wirsching & their wines should be very pertinent in today’s wine world. (…) This estate is world famous for producing the finest renditions of Silvaner in the world & does so in many different styles—from medium to full to full bodied, which has something quite profound to share to a very tasty, mineral driven “country” styled white wines, that has such pliability with a myriad of foods. (…) For me, the jewel of their line-up of wines, really is their Scheurebe bottlings. It really is Hans Wirsching in my humble opinion who is the shining star champion who shows the vast potential this grossly poo-poo-ed grape variety can offer.”
